For the
first time in over 13 years and only the second time
overall, the club went South to big Sam Rayburn for a
two-day event this past April 5th and 6th. Off
colored water throughout most of the lake from a month of
rain kept most of the sight fishing out of the question.
Many fish appeared to be guarding nests in the shallows, so
a bunch of male bass were brought to the scales this time
around. A few teams used a great first day to put some room
between them and the rest of the field. Sinkos and Carolina
rigs seemed to be the predominant pattern, with some
Texas-rigged flipping mixed in. We thank all the teams that
made the long haul even given the rising fuel prices. It
always makes for a better event with more boats
participating. In first place (this is not a misprint) was
the team of Jason Hill and Dave Jones, with an 18 fish
stringer at 37.86 pounds. Their Day 1 limit at 24.98 pounds
would have won the event alone. In second place, we had the
team of Jeff Cade and Tony South with 14 fish at 24.15
pounds. Coming in third place was the team of Riley
Hamilton and Cody Spoerl, who also made their Day 1 weight
hold up with 9 fish at 18.62 pounds. Big bass of the event
went to Mike Millender with a nice 5.78 pound Day 2 hawg.
Seventeen anglers total brought in 72 bass at 143.40 pounds,
a 1.99 pound average. Thanks to everyone for participating
and congratulations to the winners. We hope to see everyone
next month at the next event of the 2007-2008 season, a
venture to the northern border, Lake Texoma, May 3rd.
