RODBENDERS August 05 NEWSLETTER

Attached are the results after the August 6th tournament at Lake Bob Sandlin. After 11 months of fishing different waters, different conditions -- the race for Angler of The Year comes down to this -- a photo finish race for four anglers at Lake Lavon for all the marbles.  Best of luck to Dave Jones, Martin Kralik, Jason Hill, and Mike Millender.  Unless someone at Lavon can find a rare summertime lunker, Martin's 7.79 pound hawg from Lake Welsh will take the Big Bass of the Year honors.  The club again changed tactics this month, opting for another day tournament in August.  Bob Sandlin surprised many competitors with the amount of keeper fish that were feeding shallow this day.  Despite the open-ended spotted bass limit (following state regs), only four five-fish limits were brought to the scales.  Participation was down this month as eighteen anglers brought in a total of 40 fish at 57.19 pounds - a 1.43 lb average (much improvement over Cedar Creek in July). First place went to Martin Kralik and partner Steve Kralik with eight fish at 15.51 pounds. Coming in a decent second place was John Duhon and alumni partner Doug Mattingly with a 7 fish stringer that weighed 13.77 pounds. Third place was the team of Jeff Cade and Eric Pearl with 5 fish at 8.23 pounds. Big Bass of the event went to Doug Mattingly with a 4.85 pound fish he caught shallow on a Carolina rig. Thanks to everyone that made the hot trip to wet a line. Better luck to everyone next month at sweat-filled Lake Lavon, another 5-2:30 event. Good job guys.
