The club fish Lake Fork on January 7th, and did so with weigh in rules in place. An unseasonably mild preceeding week coupled with very little cold rain had the lake temperatures in a very moderate range, considering the time of year. Cody Spoerl and Riley Hamilton put on a keeper clinic for us, showing up with 9 fish total under the slot for a total team weight of 14.16 pounds. Coming in a respectable, but distant second was the newcomer team of Ken Cecil and Phillip Drane with 6 fish at 7.71 pounds. Third place went to a surprised team of Dan Harris and James Cannon, with 4 fish at 6.61 pounds. While no over the slot fish were brought in, there were supposedly several close calls, and in a tight race for big bass, Matt Reed won with a 2.28 pound fish. The big news at this event was the amount of participation as we had 27 anglers fishing and bringing in 36 keepers weighing in a total of 54.80 pounds, a 1.52 pound average. Thanks to everyone for participating and congratulations to the winners as well as those that came oh, so close. I also heard that several members had great days on slot fish, so we'll have to hear the stories at the meeting. |
